Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 12, the fundraiser will celebrate the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and its benefit to the running community
PITTSBURGH – P3R and the Steel City Road Runners aim to give back to the trails popular among runners by a hosting a new fundraiser – The Friends of the Riverfront Trail Run. Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 12, the event, which is sponsored by First National Bank and UPMC Health Plan, will feature a 15K, 10K, 5K and a 2-mile walk.
“Inspiring the community to walk and run our gorgeous riverfront trails is the best way for Friends of the Riverfront to show off our successes in stewardship,” said Stacey Vernallis, Chair of the Friends of the Riverfront Board. “Thank you to our wonderful sponsors First National Bank, UPMC Health Plan, P3R and Steel City Runners who are helping us host a trail day to remember!”
The suggested donation for the Friends of the Riverfront Trail Run is $10 for an individual and $25 for family of four. Events will start and finish at the P3R headquarters, located at 810 River Avenue, Pittsburgh.
Friends of the Riverfront Trail Run Schedule
- 6:45 a.m. – Welcome Remarks and Opening
- 7:00 a.m. – 15K, 10K, 5K and 2-mile walk (Wave 1)
- 7:30 a.m. – 10K, 5K and 2-mile walk (Wave 2)
Since its inception in 1991, Friends of the Riverfront has been a pioneering organization working to protect and restore the Pittsburgh region’s rivers and riverfronts after decades of legacy pollution. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail now encompasses over 25 miles of urban riverfront trails along both banks of the mighty Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers. Proceeds from this event will help with trail maintenance and expansion.
