PITTSBURGH – P3R, the nonprofit organizers of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events, recently announced the hiring of Phil Racicot as Operations Director. In this role, he will be responsible for developing and executing strategic and tactical event operations plans, establishing and managing specific operations budgets, and developing and managing event operations processes.
“Phil will not only bring new vision and direction to our growing team but also help P3R continue to build its presence as the go-to event planning organization and lifestyle brand in Pittsburgh,” said Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO. “As our organization and number of events continues to grow, we are thrilled to have an experienced leader like Phil steering our event operations.”
Racicot joins Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. (P3R) to ensure continued success of the growing list of races and programs that P3R manages each year. He brings over 20 years of experience in strategic planning, program innovation, and project and event management.
Prior to P3R, Racicot managed the daily operations of Duquesne University’s intercollegiate athletics department, encompassing 17 varsity sports, 90 staff members and 430 students athletes. During his tenure, he helped to initiate and lead a coordinated effort with PPG Paints Arena and VisitPittsburgh to submit successful bids to host several NCAA regional tournaments and national championships. Racicot was also responsible for all aspects of planning as the Tournament Manager for the first and second rounds of the 2012, 2015 and 2018 NCAA men’s basketball championship tournament.
“One of the main lessons I have taken from my career is that high-level coordination and direct interface with partners is crucial to the successful execution of any sporting event,” said Racicot. “I look forward to bringing this knowledge to help enhance current events, identify new opportunities and support P3R as the leader in exceptional event coordination and consultation in Pittsburgh.”
Racicot earned his M.Ed. in Sports Administration from Temple University and currently serves as the Regional Chair of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. This host and featured presenter for the 2015 NCAA Leadership Institute was also previously appointed to develop, review and plan programming for student athletes and service professionals as part of the NCAA Life Skills Advisory Team.
