One of the nation’s premier endurance running organizations and partners to wow participants with perks during the first of its kind race for western Pennsylvania
PITTSBURGH (July 17, 2018) – Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. (P3R) is thrilled to announce an expanded partnership with number one specialty running brand Brooks Running and a new partnership with number one selling sports drink Nuun for the inaugural Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail Relay presented by UPMC Health Plan.
“P3R collaborates with partners like Brooks and Nuun to not only create the best possible event experiences but also meet our participants’ needs,” said Troy Schooley, P3R Senior Vice President of Sales and Partnerships. “We chose to partner with two of the running industry’s most well-known brands because their products are designed by athletes, for athletes, to encourage peak performance.”
Brooks Running will serve as the Official Footwear and Apparel Partner of the GAP Trail Relay. Through this expanded partnership with P3R, Brooks will continue its mission to celebrate and champion the sport of running and all runners everywhere.
To keep GAP Trail Relay participants running longer, farther and faster, Brooks will give away a FREE pair of shoes to the team captain of each relay team participating in the 2018 event. The global running gear manufacturer will also surprise two relay teams by outfitting them with Brooks apparel to wear while traversing the GAP.

Nuun has signed on as the Official Hydration Sponsor of the new event. Running over rivers and ravines, cutting through mountain tunnels, and journeying through some of the most rugged, spectacular places in two states will create unique hydration challenges. P3R is confident that Nuun will help to optimally hydrate every participant so they can achieve their personal best.

The sports hydration brand will provide a “hydration pack” including tubes of Nuun Electrolytes and Electrolytes with Energy to fuel relay teams of eight, or four-member ultra teams, to tackle 24 legs of varying distances along the 150-mile trail from Cumberland, Maryland to Pittsburgh. Nuun’s clean, low sugar optimal electrolyte blend will keep participants hydrated over the two-day journey, while the Energy tablets will also offer 40 mg of caffeine, sourced from organic green tea.
The inaugural GAP Trail Relay is scheduled for October 12-13, 2018. Participants will begin the relay in Cumberland, Maryland on Friday, October 12 and cross the finish line in Pittsburgh sometime on Saturday, October 13 before enjoying a post-race party at South Shore Riverfront Park.
Registration for the first edition of the GAP Trail Relay presented by UPMC Health Plan is now open at www.gaptrailrelay.org. Proceeds from the race will help with the ongoing maintenance and improvements of the GAP trail while introducing runners to the beauty of the region and potential for outdoor adventure.
