Kids of STEEL – Instilling lifelong, healthy habits in kids

Kids of STEEL is an award winning physical activity and nutrition program designed to motivate children to pursue quality nutrition and an active lifestyle by incorporating exercise and healthy eating habits into their daily routine.

Going the Distance with Project R.U.N.

There are many barriers for urban youth who want to participate in Kids of STEEL. Whether the barrier is cost, transportation, footwear or adult support, no child should be denied the opportunity to participate. P3R wants to give all children the full Kids of STEEL experience, no matter what. Check out this amazing video from Hosanna House in Wilkinsburg.

In 2016, P3R began collaborating with fitUnited, an initiative of the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, on Project R.U.N. The program expanded to 9 sites in 2016. P3R and fitUnited facilitated a physical activity and nutrition education curriculum that provided children with resources to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Day of Action, Giving Back to Our Communities

As part of our mission to enhance community access to health and fitness education and activities, P3R actively seeks out opportunities to give back to our community. Our partners in these endeavors share the same commitment to making Pittsburgh a healthy community.

P3R is proud to partner with the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s fitUnited initiative and other community partners to improve outdoor play spaces along the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon course.

Field of Dreams Project: Willie Stargell Field

In 2015, P3R was part of a team that refurbished the Willie Stargell Field in Homewood. The field hosts both baseball and football, practices and games, for more than 300 children from May through November. Collaborating partners for this special project included: fitUnited/United Way of Allegheny County, The City of Pittsburgh, Pirates Charities, Homewood Community Sports and Homewood Children’s Village.

Fowler Park and Playground Rehab Project

P3R partnered with the United Way of Southwestern PA’s fitUnited and The Pittsburgh Project to spruce up Fowler Park and Playground in the North Side neighborhood during the United Way’s ‘Day of Action’ on June 11, 2016.

Summer Running Camps

P3R Junior Running Camp Powered by Kids of STEEL and SCRR

P3R Junior Running Camp is the perfect place for your child to learn about running and have fun at the same time.

Our twice a week, 5-week camp is geared toward kids entering grades 1-6 for the 2017-18 school year. During the 2½ hours we’re together, our coaches will teach running form, pacing and technique, but we also want to have fun. We’ll encourage team building, try healthy snacks, and play games that will have your child laughing until you pick them up from camp
