2026 FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk Presented by CNX Resources Takes Off with Record-Breaking Participation at Pittsburgh International Airport

More than 2,500 runners and walkers raced on the tarmac and celebrated a morning of movement and aviation
PITTSBURGH – A record-breaking 2,500 runners and walkers took to the tarmac at Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday for the 2026 FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk, presented by CNX Resources. Participants of all ages came together for the one-of-a-kind event, enjoying sunny skies and a rare opportunity to race down the airport’s taxiway while getting an up-close look at aircraft and airport equipment.
“We were thrilled to see our biggest turnout yet at this sold‑out FlyBy 5K,” said Jim Popovich, P3R CEO. “From families and first‑time runners to competitive athletes and aviation fans, thousands came together to share a rare and exciting experience on the airport tarmac. At P3R, our mission is to inspire any and all to MOVE, and this event is a great example of how we can make movement fun, accessible and memorable for the entire community.”
The flat, fast course produced impressive performances, with Noah Bernarding, 24, of Cochranton, Pa., crossing the finish line first in the 5K in 16 minutes, 20 seconds, followed by Karsyn Spears, 22, of Cranberry Township, Pa. in 17:56.
Following the race, participants and their families enjoyed a festival atmosphere featuring a touch-a-truck display with airport equipment, face painting, lawn games with Kids of STEEL, and refreshments from Urban Trail Coffee Co. and Champyinz Hot Dogs.
Proceeds from the FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk benefit the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation.
