Position Overview:
P3R (Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc.) is the engine behind Pittsburgh’s most transformative and inclusive sporting events. From the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon to year-round youth programming, our mission is to inspire any and all to MOVE. The Partnerships & Event Sales Coordinator is a salaried, exempt position responsible for managing P3R’s Corporate Challenge Program while supporting event activations, group sales efforts, and partnership fulfillment across all races. This role is ideal for a highly organized, self-motivated professional looking to grow in event coordination, sales, and sponsorship activation. The coordinator will exercise independent judgment in managing logistics, developing strategic outreach, engaging corporate and community partners, and contributing to the planning and execution of top-tier endurance events. This role requires discretion, initiative, and the ability to manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities - Corporate Challenge Program:
- Lead the rebranding, development, and execution of the Corporate Challenge Program to generate race registration revenue.
- Independently prospect, network, and establish strong relationships with key business leaders.
- Represent P3R at special events to promote corporate engagement and partnerships.
- Design professional sales proposals and presentations for potential business opportunities.
- Build and maintain fluency in all P3R event and program offerings to effectively communicate value to partners.
- Manage team registration, strategic communication touchpoints, and logistics leading up to and on race day.
- Develop year-round engagement programming to sustain and grow business participation.
Expo & Vendor Sales:
- Assist with planning and executing the Pittsburgh Live Well Expo for the Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend.
- Manage exhibitor outreach, sales, and logistics to maximize vendor engagement.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure an optimal expo layout that includes all essential vendor and partner activations.
Group Sales &Vendor Coordination:
- Develop and execute independent strategies to drive group sales from corporate teams, running clubs, schools and community organization groups.
- Manage Lead vendor sales for post-race celebrations, ensuring a vibrant and engaging experience for participants.
- Maintain sales tracking systems, report on performance metrics, and foster long-term customer relationships.
- Collaborate with Youth and Marketing departments to align outreach and engagement year-round.
- Conduct lead generation outreach using historical participant and partner data.
Partnership Deliverable Fulfillment:
- Assist in executing partnership deliverables, including branding, signage, hospitality and on-site activations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing and operations to ensure timely and accurate sponsor fulfillment.
- Provide support in post-event reporting and maintain active partner engagement to enhance renewal opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in event coordination, sales, partnerships, or customer engagement.
- Proven ability to plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment in fast-paced or mission-driven work environments.
- Passion for endurance sports, community engagement, or live events is a plus.
- This role offers hands-on experience in event planning, sales, and sponsorship activation while contributing to P3R’s mission of inspiring movement.
Work Environment:
- This is a full-time, exempt position based in an office environment.
- Attendance at events, which may take place during evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required.
- This role may require extended hours to meet event deadlines and obligations.
- Flexibility and proactive scheduling are expected.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Occasional travel required for promotional events, expos, and race weekend responsibilities.

Best known for organizing the acclaimed annual DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, P3R is looking for an Operations Intern who will work from the fall through the spring of 2026 and support P3R’s fall and spring events, including the Parade Day Dash and the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. P3R also organizes a variety of other high-quality races, training runs, and health and fitness programs throughout the Pittsburgh region.
Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate closely with the Operations Manager on logistics and signage planning for all P3R events.
- Coordinate specific projects as assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Assist with signage coordination and management, including inventory, tracking, sorting, organizing, researching, and planning for future events.
- Support warehouse management, inventory, and overall organization.
- Help create plans, maps, and other documents for specific projects.
- Assist with notifying venues around the city about the impact of P3R events and manage the overall notification listings and tracking.
- Support the ordering of race supplies and equipment, including researching new equipment and ideas.
- Contribute to developing plans for vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Open to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, and recent graduates.
- Available to work at least 15 hours a week. Schedule is flexible, but must be within regular 9 AM–5 PM core business hours.
- Willing to work occasional nights and weekends to assist with events.
- All majors are encouraged to apply.
- Outgoing personality with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professional demeanor.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Word and Excel; familiarity with PowerPoint, Illustrator, and CAD is a plus.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
Compensation:
Interns will be paid an hourly rate and will work an average of 15 to 20 hours per week, depending on schedules and events.
