Stephanie Brokaw and Carter Cutting headline elite field as they look to repeat in Pittsburgh's premier nighttime road race

PITTSBURGH, PA – The chase is back on.

Last year's America's Mile champions, Stephanie Brokaw and Carter Cutting will return to Pittsburgh on Friday, July 17, to defend their titles at America's Mile Presented by VisitPITTSBUGH, one of the nation's premier road mile races.

Held on Pittsburgh's North Shore during Picklesburgh weekend, America's Mile features an exciting evening of racing for participants of all ages, culminating in the Elite Mile, where some of the country's top middle-distance athletes compete for a share of a $21,700 prize purse.

In 2025, Brokaw captured the women's title in 4:43, while Cutting claimed the men's crown in 4:09. Brokaw also took home the inaugural equalizer bonus, a unique gender head-start competition that awarded a $1,000 winner-take-all prize to the first elite athlete—male or female—to cross the finish line. Now, both champions return with their sights set on defending their crowns in what promises to be another fast and fiercely competitive race.

“America’s Mile is hands down the best mile of the year,” Brokaw said. “P3R and the city of Pittsburgh put on a world class race, and I’m thrilled to be returning for my seventh run!”

The “Blue Ribbon Chase” will once again add a strategic twist to the Elite Mile. Elite women will receive a head start based on projected finishing times while elite men attempt to chase them down over the fast, one-mile course. The format creates an exciting, spectator-friendly race where every second counts until the tape is broken.

“I’m excited to be back in Pittsburgh for the America’s Mile,” Cutting said. “I’m looking forward to competing against a strong field and seeing what I can do this year."

Before the elite competition begins, more than 2,000 runners and walkers will take part in America's Mile, featuring races and activities for participants of all ages and abilities. The event celebrates classic Americana with live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and the energy of Picklesburgh, making it one of Pittsburgh's signature summer traditions.

"One of the things that makes America's Mile so special is that it brings together world-class competition and community participation in one unforgettable evening," said Bob Shooer, P3R interim CEO. "Whether you're chasing a personal best, cheering on an elite athlete, or simply enjoying the energy of Picklesburgh weekend, there's something for everyone. We're excited to welcome Stephanie and Carter back to Pittsburgh as they look to defend their titles in front of an incredible crowd."

Spectators are encouraged to line the course and cheer on the defending champions as they attempt to make history with back-to-back victories. For more information or to register, visit AmericasMile.com.
