Bucket list race returns Sept. 19, giving participants rare access to run the taxiways of the region’s new world-class airport

PITTSBURGH, PA  – Runners and walkers will have a chance to see the new Pittsburgh International Airport terminal for the first time from its airfield After a one-year hiatus to accommodate construction at Pittsburgh International Airport, the FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk presented by CNX Resources is cleared for takeoff once again, with registration opening June 16.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, participants of all ages will have the rare opportunity to step onto the airfield and run or walk along the same taxiways used by aircraft every day, experiencing Pittsburgh International Airport from a perspective few ever get to see. This one-of-a-kind event combines fitness, fun, and aviation in an unforgettable setting.

This family-friendly event offers two course options: the timed 5K (3.1 miles) and the untimed 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk. Both routes are stroller-friendly, and children under four can register at no cost. All participants will receive a technical men’s or women’s finisher shirt and medal, with awards and post‑race festivities rounding out the morning.

“The races are a testament to our commitment to community engagement at Pittsburgh International Airport. This event is a unique opportunity for the public to connect with the airport in a way that’s fun and meaningful while getting a closer look at our new world-class terminal from the airfield,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO of Allegheny County Airport Authority. “We are thrilled to once again open our airfield for this extraordinary event and invite the community to join us in experiencing the new airport.”

Proceeds from the FlyBy 5K and 2‑Mile Fun Run/Walk support the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation.

“The FlyBy 5K is one of the most unique race experiences in the region, giving participants an unforgettable behind-the-scenes look at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Whether you're a seasoned runner, a first-time participant, or simply looking for a fun family outing, this event offers something for everyone. We're proud to partner with Pittsburgh International Airport and CNX Resources to bring this experience back and help support the important work of the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation.”
