P3R and Allegheny County Airport Authority have announced that registration is open for the first-ever Flyby 5K and 1-mile Fun Run at Pittsburgh International Airport to be held October 1, 2016.

PITTSBURGH – P3R and Allegheny County Airport Authority have announced that registration is open for the first-ever Flyby 5K and 1-mile Fun Run at Pittsburgh International Airport. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, the event offers runners a unique opportunity to race on the grounds and taxiways near hangars and aircraft at the airport.

“We are pleased to open the airfield to the community for the very first time for these exciting events,” Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said. “Part of our mission is community engagement, and we know that the 1-mile fun run and 5K race will appeal to aviation and fitness enthusiasts, families and participants of all ages.”

The 5K race will start at 10 a.m. The cost is $28 for individuals or $25 for groups of 3-5 who register together. Race amenities include:

  • Short-sleeve, men’s or women’s finishers shirt
  • Beautifully designed finisher medal
  • Access to a closed, USATF-certified course along airport taxiways and ramps
  • Post-race food and entertainment

The 1-mile Fun Run will start at 10:45 a.m. and costs for $20 for an individual. Kids 4 and under are free.

The family-friendly race will benefit the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit organization established to assist members of the military, families and others traveling through the airport.

“We are excited to partner with the Allegheny County Airport Authority and offer runners a unique racing opportunity at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO.

The Airport Authority is also hosting the second annual Lace Up & Away Airport 5K at Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin on Saturday, September 10, in conjunction with that airport’s 85th anniversary and West Mifflin Community Day. The race there begins at 8:30 a.m.
