$10,000 in $250 prizes will be randomly awarded to participants who cross the finish line during Marathon Weekend

PITTSBURGH, PA  — This spring, runners and walkers will have even more reason to celebrate at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events. In honor of America’s 250th birthday, P3R and VisitPITTSBURGH are giving participants the chance to win $250 simply by crossing the finish line.

As part of the nationwide, nonpartisan commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a total of $10,000 in prizes will be randomly awarded to 40 finishers during Marathon Weekend — 20 winners on Saturday and 20 winners on Sunday. Every participant who completes a Saturday or Sunday event will be automatically entered for a chance to win $250. Winners will be notified by the P3R team via email in the week following the race.

“Whether participants are chasing a personal best, walking their first mile, or tackling 26.2 miles, their finish line moment could come with an unexpected bonus,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Marathon Weekend is already one of the most exciting weekends of the year in Pittsburgh. Tying it to America's 250th Birthday  and surprising 40 finishers with $250 adds another layer of energy and excitement to an unforgettable experience.”

VisitPITTSBURGH is promoting special programming, exhibitions, neighborhood activations, and events that highlight the region’s role in shaping the nation’s history — and its future. Marathon Weekend will serve as a high-energy, citywide celebration that welcomes visitors from across the United States to experience Pittsburgh during this historic milestone year.

“As we commemorate 250 years of American history, we’re inviting visitors to explore Pittsburgh’s unique role in shaping the nation — from innovation and industry to arts, culture and technology. Marathon Weekend serves as a powerful kickoff to that celebration,” said Jerad Bachar, President & CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. “We are thrilled to welcome runners and their families to experience our history in action as they cross the finish line in this monumental year.”

This year, a record 50,000 participants are expected to cross the finish line during Marathon Weekend. From the marathon and half marathon to the UPMC Health Plan / UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K, U. S. Steel Pittsburgh Champions Mile, Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon (the largest youth running event in the country), Sheetz Pittsburgh Toddler Trot, Pittsburgh Pet Walk, GNC Pittsburgh 4-Mile Fitness Challenge, and the FedEx Pittsburgh Marathon Relay, there’s truly an event for every age and pace.

Whether chasing a personal best or simply celebrating the moment, every participant has the opportunity to be part of this historic year — and possibly take home $250. Registration for the 2026 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events is now open.
