More than 7,000 Spread Thanksgiving Cheer at the 33rd YMCA Pittsburgh Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan

Proceeds from the event benefited YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

PITTSBURGH, PA  – More 7,000 participants from 35 states plus Canada and Great Britain made Thanksgiving extra special this year by moving with friends and family while making a difference at the 33rd YMCA Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan. This beloved Thanksgiving tradition gave back to the community, while benefiting the YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

“The Turkey Trot has helped make a difference in the Pittsburgh community since 1991,” said Amy Kienle, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “For so many, the event is a chance to come together, give thanks for our blessings and give back to support our friends and neighbors in need."

Participants ages 4 months to 90+ years crossed the finish line on the North Shore at the 1-Mile Family Fun Run presented by Busy Beaver, the 5K presented by UPMC Health Plan, and the 5-Mile presented by FedEx. More than 200 participants completed the Double Gobble presented by Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, running both the 5K and the 5-Mile races. Many celebrated the holiday by wearing their finest turkey ensembles and pie hats.

In the spirit of the holiday, Peoples Gas sponsored a county-wide food drive as part of the event and encouraged participants to bring non-perishable food donations to packet pickup or to the race. The food collected at the event and will support the YMCA food pantry programs, which has distributed over 80 tons of food to local neighborhoods since 2020.

"The YMCA Pittsburgh Turkey Trot is not just a run; it's a celebration of unity, a reflection of our blessings, and a heartfelt commitment to supporting those in need,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Each step is a testament to the power of coming together, giving thanks, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of our neighbors."
