PITTSBURGH – The excitement of draft weekend spilled into the streets as nearly 3,000 participants from 34 states and 11 countries laced up for the PicksBURGH Draft Day 5K, turning the North Shore and Downtown Pittsburgh into a sea of jerseys. The event brought together runners, walkers and football fans for a one-of-a-kind race experience celebrating the city’s moment on the national stage.
“The Draft Day 5K was an incredible way to bring the community together during such a monumental weekend for Pittsburgh,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “From first-time participants to seasoned runners, the energy on the course reflected the pride and passion that define this city.”
Participants embraced the spirit of the weekend, sporting team jerseys, waving Terrible Towels and taking part in football-themed activations along the course. From on-course entertainment to a finish line just steps from the NFL Draft Experience at Point State Park, the event delivered a game-day atmosphere from start to finish.
The flat, fast course produced strong performances, with Noah Bernarding, of Cochranton, Pa., breaking the tape in 15 minutes, 36 seconds. Becca Anastasio, of Lancaster, Pa., led the women’s field, finishing in 19:29.
As Pittsburgh hosts one of the biggest events in sports, the PicksBURGH Draft Day 5K added a unique, active element to the celebration — giving participants a chance to be part of the action in a distinctly Pittsburgh way.
