P3R Set New Participation, Community Impact Records in 2023

P3R’s signature and partner events were able to give back to the community in big ways this year, raising a record of more than $2 million for charitable causes and having an estimated economic impact of $25-30 million during marathon weekend

PITTSBURGH, PA  – P3R is celebrating a milestone year with record participation and community impact in 2023. This year P3R’s signature and partner events inspired more than 70,000 to MOVE and achieve their fitness goals. A record number of youth participated in races last year, thanks to the continued popularity of  Kids of STEEL. P3R also expanded beyond running and offered the Pittsburgh community new ways to MOVE by launching Rush to Crush Cancer and leading the operations at the National Senior Games.

P3R was able to give back to the community in big ways in 2023. The DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events was estimated to have an economic impact of $25-30 million, according to researchers at Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, a record of more than $2 million was raised for charitable causes at P3R’s signature and partner events. P3R continued to be committed to sustainability, and once again, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend and EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and 10K events were named "Zero Waste" events by the Pennsylvania Resource Council.

"We are immensely proud to mark 2023 as a milestone year for P3R,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “P3R's impact goes far beyond the finish line on race day. We've ignited a movement, inspiring over 70,000 individuals to MOVE and embrace their fitness goals. Together, we've not only set records but made a profound impact on our community.”

P3R is planning for a bigger and better year in 2024 and hopes to inspire even more to MOVE with new event experiences and year-round programming for all ages and abilities. The 2024 season kicks off with the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events, scheduled for May 3-5. With more than 40,000 runners expected to register, Pittsburgh’s largest sporting event will offer something for everyone, no matter their age, pace or experience. Other P3R events coming back in 2024 include the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile and EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and 10K.

“P3R is poised for an even more impactful year in 2024,” Schooley said. “We hope to inspire, MOVE, and engage individuals of all ages and abilities through new event experiences and year-round programming. We're excited to bring back beloved events and work with partners to create new experiences, building on the momentum of our incredible 2023.'"
