Record 52,000 Runners Cross the Finish Line in Historic DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend

Record race weekend turnout and a new women’s half marathon course record highlight the coldest race day since the event’s return in 2009
PITTSBURGH, PA – A record-setting weekend came to a powerful close at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, where more than 52,000 participants took to the streets of Pittsburgh to earn the title of Runner of STEEL. Sunday’s five races capped a weekend marked by sold-out events and the coldest race-day temperatures since the relaunch of the race in 2009.
“From unprecedented participation to incredible performances, the energy throughout the Steel City was unmatched,”said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “It’s inspiring to see how race weekend continues to grow each year and bring our community together in meaningful ways.”
The men’s division of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon featured a tightly contested battle at the front, with Pittsburgh native Will Loevner emerging victorious in 2:14:52. Jared Ward followed just seconds behind in 2:15:04 after the Americans ran stride-for-stride through the second half of the course, while Milton Rotich of Kenya claimed third in 2:17:10.
“I could feel the Pittsburgh energy every mile, and it brought me to the most rewarding win of my career,” Loevner said. “Thank you to all of of yinz! I’m proud to get the win for the city of champions.”
In the women’s division, Jane Bareikis defended her title for a third consecutive year with a time of 2:30:34—an impressive six minutes faster than her 2025 finish. Morgan Jensen secured second with a time of 2:39:23, while Peyton McGovern earned a third-place finish in 2:57:07.
"To become the first woman in history to win the marathon three times in a row is a feeling I can’t fully put into words. Pittsburgh has become my second home, and I am so honored to leave my mark on the history of this incredible race,” Bareikis said. “This city has a grit and a spirit that mirrors my own training, and the energy from the crowds on those hills carried me through every mile.”
In the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, Ethiopia’s Buze Diriba Kejela set a new women’s course record with a time of 1:08:39. The performance secured her second race title and added to an already decorated résumé that includes three EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler victories. Defending champion Everlyn Kemboi of Kenya placed second in 1:09:11, improving upon her 2025 time to also beat the previous course record, while fellow Kenyan Monicah Ngige finished third with a time of 1:10:37.
On the men’s side, Mohammed El Youssfi of Morocco made a decisive move early and never relinquished the lead, crossing the finish line in 1:01:45. Aidan Reed followed with a time of 1:02:26, with Merga Gemeda rounding out the top three in 1:02:43.
Approximately 26,000 runners from all 50 states and 34 countries accomplished their goals and earned their medals today. In addition to the marathon and half marathon, this total number includes teams who split the 26.2-mile course as part of the FedEx Pittsburgh Marathon Relay and participants of the GNC Pittsburgh 4-Mile Fitness Challenge.
The impact of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events will extend far beyond race day thanks to the nearly 5,000 charity runners who are expected to raise more than $1.5 million to benefit 50 official charities and 14 contributing charities through the Run for a Reason Charity Program presented by KeyBank.
