Road Closures Announced for 2026 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events

Road closures will begin downtown on Friday, May 1 at noon and will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday, May 3 in the late afternoon.

PITTSBURGH, PA  – P3R has announced road closures for the 2026 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events, taking place May 1-3. More than 52,000 participants from all 50 states and 34 countries are expected to join this year's celebration of movement across Pittsburgh.

Road Closure Details

Friday, May 1

  • Initial Downtown closures will begin at noon on the Boulevard of the Allies between Wood Street and Stanwix Street.
  • This section will remain closed through the conclusion of race weekend on Sunday, May 3.

Saturday, May 2

  • Road closures for the UPMC Health Plan / UPMC Sports Medicine 5K, U. S. Steel Pittsburgh Champions Mile, and Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon will begin at 6:45 a.m. on the North Shore and Downtown areas.Streets are expected to reopen by 12:00 p.m.

Sunday, May 3 

  • Closures for the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, FedEx Pittsburgh Marathon Relay, and GNC Pittsburgh 4-Mile Fitness Challenge will start Downtown at 1:30 a.m. and continue around the city until approximately 2:30 p.m.

Over the next few days, P3R will be posting "No Parking" signs along streets that will be closed throughout the city and vehicles parked in violation of the signs will be towed. The City of Pittsburgh is advising all residents and visitors to abide by the dates and times of the parking restrictions listed on yellow signs that look like this:

Please note: Road closure times include additional windows for course setup and teardown. Streets will reopen on a rolling basis once cleared by city officials.

Special Sunday Events Impacting Travel

In addition to marathon weekend activities, two major events are scheduled for Sunday, May 3:

  • A Pittsburgh Pirates game at 1:35 p.m. at PNC Park
  • The University of Pittsburgh commencement ceremony at 3:30 p.m. at Acrisure Stadium

Both events are expected to draw large crowds and additional traffic Downtown and on the North Shore. Event attendees should allow extra travel time, expect delays, and plan routes carefully to navigate around race-related road closures.

Getting Into and Out of Downtown During the Event

The marathon course forms a loop around the city, limiting some access points. This document provides specific routes for:

Entering the course area from Parkway North (I-279), Route 65 Inbound, and 376 Inbound

Exiting the course area via 279 Northbound, 28 Northbound, 376 Westbound, and 65 Northbound Drivers are encouraged to review the maps and plan accordingly.

Downtown Pittsburgh – Sunday, May 3
