Road Closures Announced for PNC Presents Rush to Crush Cancer Benefitting UPMC Hillman Cancer Center

More than 600 riders expected to participate on May 17 and raise more than $1 million for cancer research and innovation
PITTSBURGH, PA – P3R has announced road closures and traffic impacts for the fourth annual PNC Presents Rush to Crush Cancer benefitting UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, taking place Sunday, May 17. More than 600 cyclists are expected to participate in the fundraising event, which is projected to raise more than $1 million to support cancer research and innovation.
Participants will ride one of four course options, including the Short Course 8-mile ride, Brian Shanahan 15-Mile Ride, 30-Mile Ride, and 60-Mile Ride. The 8-mile and 15-mile rides will begin on Blair Street in Hazelwood Green, while the 30-mile and 60-mile rides will operate as point-to-point courses beginning at Central Elementary School in Hampton, Pa. The 60-mile ride will begin at 6:00 a.m., followed by the 30-mile ride at 8:00 a.m. All courses will finish on South Water Street near South Shore Riverfront Park.
Road Closures
Road closures associated with the 8-mile and 15-mile rides will be in effect from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 17. Motorists should expect traffic impacts in the following neighborhoods:
- Hazelwood
- Downtown Pittsburgh
- North Shore
- North Side
- South Side
Key roads impacted include:
- Second Avenue
- Grant Street
- Liberty Avenue
- River Avenue
- East General Robinson Street
- Sandusky Street
- Allegheny Commons
- Federal Street
- Fifth Avenue
- East Station Square Drive
- South Water Street
In addition, the Andy Warhol Bridge and 31st Street Bridge will be temporarily closed during the event. The 30-mile and 60-mile rides will not require road closures; however, motorists are encouraged to use caution and remain alert for cyclists along the route.
Parking Restrictions and Resident Advisory
No parking will be permitted along the 15-mile course beginning at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 17. Residents and businesses located along or near the course are encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time throughout the morning. For more information about the event, click here.
