Robert Morris University Launches Running Club with P3R’s Support

Club invites first-timers as well as experienced athletes to embrace the love of running

PITTSBURGH (August 29, 2019) – With support from P3R, students from Robert Morris University have launched a running club to inspire students to try running for the first time or continue their running careers after high school. The club will host weekly practices and events, as well as opportunities to compete in races and meets.

“We are hoping to foster a solid support system for everyone wishing to try running for the first time or further excel those with years of experience,” said Tyler Slaney, a founder of the club. “We encourage anyone of any skill level to come out to our practices and give running a chance. Our club team would not be this far developed if it was not for P3R’s generosity and willingness to work with us.”

P3R will provide event registrations, team uniforms and bi-weekly coaching to the new club. The team will also support P3R by volunteering at upcoming P3R events, including the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler.

“The founders of the club share P3R’s mission to inspire any and all to run,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “They are committed to encouraging runners of all levels to get involved with the sport, and we are thrilled to help them reach their goals.”

In addition to P3R, RMU is also a financial sponsor of the team. The club currently has more than 40 members who meet four times a week for team practices. In addition to helping members improve their running, the founders also want the members to receive the benefits of being part of a running community.

”This club team allows us to relive everything that we experienced in high school such as the team runs, practices, Friday night dinners and early mornings for races,” Slaney said. “We are hoping to bring these experiences, memories and opportunities for those who decide to join the team.”

The team will compete in six cross country meets this fall. Their first cross country meet is scheduled for Sept. 7. For more information about the club, click here. For more information about P3R, visit www.P3R.org.
