Runway Ready? Experience Pittsburgh International Airport Like Never Before at the FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk Presented by CNX Resources

Scheduled for Sept. 21, the bucket list race offers the rare opportunity to run or walk the runways of Pennsylvania’s second largest airport

PITTSBURGH, PA  – Registration is now open for the eighth annual FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk presented by CNX Resources. Scheduled for Sept. 21, this unique event gives participants exclusive access to run through the airfield and taxiways of Pittsburgh International Airport, a true behind-the-scenes look and a side of the airport few get to see.

This family-friendly race makes it possible for everyone to race the runways and earn their wings. There are two options to participate: the 5K (a timed 3.1-mile course) and the 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk (untimed). Both courses are stroller-friendly, and children younger than 4 years old can register for free. All 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a technical men’s or women’s finisher’s shirt and medal. Participants can look forward to awards and post-race festivities following the event.

“The races are a testament to our commitment to community engagement at Pittsburgh International Airport. This event is a unique opportunity for the public to connect with the airport in a way that’s fun and meaningful while getting a closer look at our new terminal progress,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO of Allegheny County Airport Authority. “We are thrilled to open our airfield for this extraordinary event and invite the community to join us in experiencing the airport.”

Proceeds from the FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk benefit the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation. Since 2016, the event has raised more than $100,000 for the foundation, which benefits military service members using the airport, grants post-secondary education aviation scholarships, and beautifies the airports through arts and cultural displays among other initiatives.

“As we gear up for the eighth annual FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk, we’re reminded of the power of community and the joy of movement,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Every stride taken on the runway contributes to the vital support of the important initiatives of the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation, and we’re proud to offer this unique experience to participants of all ages.”
