The 31st Annual YMCA Turkey Trot Presented by UPMC Health Plan Opens Registration for its Return to a Live Start Line in 2021

Registration is now open for the annual holiday tradition, scheduled for Thurs., Nov. 25

PITTSBURGH (August 5, 2021) – Registration is open for the 31st Annual YMCA Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan, set for Thursday, November 25. This year’s event offers 5-mile, 5K, and 1-mile fun run distances that bring families back to a live start line on Thanksgiving Day. A virtual event option will also be offered, allowing participants to help fight food insecurity from anywhere in the world.

All runners will receive a race day shirt and have the opportunity to purchase a medal with registration. Double Gobble participants will receive an additional gift to celebrate their dual 5-mile and 5K efforts.

"Local families and friends are anxious to resume this wonderful Thanksgiving tradition,” said Kevin Bolding, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. “For so many, the Turkey Trot is an important event where we can come together, give thanks and support our friends and neighbors in need."

Proceeds from the event support the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh’s nonprofit mission to promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in the city it has called home for more than 167 years. The YMCA has worked to fight food insecurity in the Greater Pittsburgh region for nearly two centuries. Partnering with the YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank again this year, additional donations pledged during the registration process will provide Thanksgiving dinner to local families in the Pittsburgh region as the fight for food security continues.

“The Turkey Trot is a longstanding Thanksgiving tradition for many families in the region, so we are thrilled to get them back safely to a live start line to support food security in our local communities,” said Troy Schooley, CEO of P3R.
