Pittsburgh’s fastest mile heats up opening day of Picklesburgh with a $25,700 prize purse on the line plus a $1,000 bonus chase
PITTSBURGH, PA – A blazing-fast elite field featuring some of the country’s top middle-distance athletes will line up on the North Shore this Friday, July 11, for the 2025 America’s Mile presented by VisitPITTSBURGH. The event, held on the opening night of Picklesburgh, will culminate in the Elite Mile, where national-caliber athletes will battle for a share of the $25,700 prize purse—and a bonus $1,000 in “The Real Dill Chase”, a gender head-start race format.
Leading the men’s field is Lucas Bons (USA), a member of Eyestone Elite and owner of a blistering mile personal best of 3:54.82. Bons will be challenged by a deep field that includes Carter Cutting (3:57.25), Dan Schaffer of ZAP Endurance (3:57.47), Evert Silva of Notorious TC (3:58.11), and Ben Nagel, representing local team Pro Bike + Run Elite (3:58.26).
Rounding out the men’s elite lineup are:
- Tony Tonkovich – OVRC Elite (4:02.36)
- CJ Singleton – Unattached (4:03.84)
- Gabriel Planty – Unattached (4:04.80)
In the women’s race, Stephanie Brokaw enters as the top seed with a personal best of 4:29.06. She’ll face competition from former Emory standout Annika Urban (4:43.17), Hannah Long (4:44.01), and Maddie Salek, representing Pro Bike + Run Elite, who holds a best of 4:45.41.
As part of the “Real Dill Chase”, the women will start ahead of the men based on projected finish times. The first athlete—regardless of gender—to cross the finish line will earn the $1,000 winner-take-all bonus, adding a dramatic head-to-head element to an already electric night of racing.
Fans can catch all the action live along East and West General Robinson Street, or tune in to @P3RmovesPGH on Instagram for a live stream of the Elite Mile. The Elite races will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m., following seven heats of community and youth runners.
