Freeze Dance
Objective: To encourage children to explore movement, practice starting and stopping, and build self-control while enjoying music.
Equipment/Setup
- Adequate space for movement
- Music player + age appropriate songs
How to Play:
- Start the music and encourage children to dance/move freely around the space.
- When the music stops, children must freeze and hold their position until music starts again.
- Repeat the start/stops.
Modification Chart
| Level | Modification | Purpose |

| 🟡 0-1 year old | Gently move baby's arms or legs to the music. Hold them still whenever the music stops. | Body Awareness, Bonding & Connection |
| 🟣 1-2 year old | Have short bursts of music and encourage children to do simple moves (clap, sway, wave arms). | Gross Motor Skills, Imitation |
| 🟢 2-3 year old | Add bigger moves with silly freezes, holding the freeze for 3-5 seconds. | Coordination, Spatial Awareness |
| 🟠 3-4 year old | Vary the tempo and add themes to make it fun. | Rhythm & Timing, Rule Following |
| 🔴 4-5 year old | Have a child be the leader and call out freeze. Add movement sequencing (hop, spin, then freeze). | Creativity, Movement Sequence |
