Kids Challenged to Complete 10 Pittsburgh-themed Fitness Activities in the EQT Kids Virtual 10 Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods
From a Kennywood obstacle course to “climbing” Mt. Washington, the new event that’s part of the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler virtual experience will celebrate the best of Pittsburgh while keeping kids moving this November
PITTSBURGH – For the first time ever, Kids of STEEL can get in on the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler fun with this year’s EQT Kids Virtual 10 presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. The multi-day event will challenge kids and their families to complete 10 Pittsburgh-themed fitness sessions during the month of November. All participants will earn a medal and a mini Pittsburgh-themed box that includes a beanie.
“Now the whole family can get in on the fun and celebrate all things Pittsburgh while also taking on a new fitness challenge in this year’s EQT Kids Virtual 10 presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “This also is another great way for participants and schools in our award-winning Kids of STEEL program to keep moving all year long.”
The EQT Kids Virtual 10 presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods will motivate kids and their families to stay active this fall but in a socially distant and safe way. Each fitness session celebrates one of the unique features of Pittsburgh including themes such as Kennywood, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Pittsburgh sports, pickles and pierogies, and more. Some of the challenges include pretending to scale Mt. Washington with indoor rock climbing, celebrating the French fry mile with a game of SPUD and completing a Kennywood obstacle course.
"DICK'S Sporting Goods is committed to creating more opportunities for kids to participate in sports,” said Mark Rooks, VP of Community Marketing, DICK’S Sporting Goods. “Through our Sports Matter initiative, we aim to support programs in local communities to play and move. The EQT Kids Virtual 10 is a wonderful way for kids to not only stay active this fall but also have lots of fun celebrating all the things that make Pittsburgh so special.”
Registered participants will have access to 10 online fitness programming sessions. Each session will include a fun fitness game, an educational running drill, and a new workout. Participants can complete these sessions at their own pace by themselves or with friends or family.
“The EQT Kids Virtual 10 presented by DICK'S Sporting Goods is an exciting new addition to this event,” said Ellen Rossi, EQT Foundation President. “The virtual component allows us to get many new kids and families involved and reach into other areas in Southwestern Pennsylvania."
Kids also will be eligible for the 2020 #RUNwithP3R Challenge and earn a bonus medal if they have completed the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon, Fleet Feet Liberty Mile and the EQT Kids Virtual 10 presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods in 2020. Teenagers who are ready to run the full 10 miles of the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler also can do so using the 4RUN2 Varsity training plan.
“We are a pretty busy family, but we try to prioritize being outdoors and active and hope it rubs off on our daughter, Willow,” said Scott Walker, who is participating in the event with his daughter. “This year she is excited to earn the medal. She sees my collection of medals on the wall and is working on making her own.”
