Trick-or-Training! Halloween Fitness Challenges for Kids

Halloween is near! Try our new Halloween-themed games and follow along with our video challenges to stay MOVING in any setting this season.

Keep Moving with These Fun Games and Challenges

Have a Halloween Relay Race
  • Divide players into two teams.

  • Place 5-10 Halloween-themed items (like mini pumpkins, candy, or toy spiders) at the far end of the yard.

  • Each team lines up behind a starting line on the opposite side.

  • When the race starts, the first player runs to the other end, grabs one item, and runs back to their team.

  • The player must hand off the item or tag the next teammate before they start running.

  • Teammates take turns until all items are collected.

  • The first team to collect all their items and return to the start line wins!

  • If a player drops their item, they must stop, pick it up, and continue from where they left off.

  • BONUS - Try These Halloween Moves:
Trick or Treat – Sprint like you’re running door to door for candy.
Zombie Shuffle – Walk stiff-legged with your arms out.
Ghost Glide – Tiptoe quietly with floating arms.
Witch Walk – Balance a small cone or toy on your head and hop like a witch on her broom.

Frankenstein Stomp – Big, clunky steps with robot arms.

(If there is only 1 player, time yourself to see how fast you can retrieve all of the items.)

Monster Mash Bash
  • Play some spooky Halloween music, like “Monster Mash,” “Ghostbusters,” or “Thriller.”

  • All players dance, jump, and groove like monsters, mummies, or zombies while the music plays.

  • When the music stops, everyone must freeze in place, strike their best mummy, zombie, or ghost pose! 👻

  • Anyone who moves while the music is paused is “out” for that round (or just does a funny monster move before rejoining).

  • The music starts again, keep dancing and freezing until the last monster is standing or the song ends!

  • For extra fun, let kids take turns being the DJ who pauses the music.

Pass the Pumpkin
  • Have players sit or stand in a circle (or form a line for smaller groups).

  • Use a small pumpkin (or a safe household item like a ball or stuffed animal) as your “pumpkin.”

  • Start the Halloween music and begin passing the pumpkin around the circle.

  • When the music stops, the person holding the pumpkin must do a Halloween-themed exercise — examples:

    • 🧟 Zombie Walks (5 lunges)

    • 🎃 Pumpkin Squats (10 squats)

    • 🕷️ Spider Crawls (5 bear crawls)

    • 🧛 Vampire Jumps (5 jumping jacks)

  • If someone drops the pumpkin while passing, they also do a fun Halloween exercise before rejoining!
