The one-mile Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon is a perfect way for kids and their families to participate in the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events. This race is the culminating race for Kids of STEEL participants following the Kids Marathon training plan - they run 25 miles throughout their training and run the final mile of their marathon on race day!

Did you know the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon was the largest one-mile race in the entire country in 2025?

Date: Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Time: The first heat begins at 9:30 AM.
The first heat of the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon starts at 9:30 AM. The race is divided into 21 heats that start at 5-minute increments until 11:30 AM. Participants are assigned to their heat based on school district or Kids of STEEL site.
The official heat schedule will be released in early April, so stay tuned!

Packet Pickup:
Kids of STEEL sites have the option to receive their participants' race bibs and
t-shirts for the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon prior to race day. If your child participates in the Kids of STEEL program at their school or programming site, stay tuned for more information as to whether your coach is participating in site packet drop-off. Specific details will be sent to coaches in April.

If you are not receiving your race bibs and shirts from your Kids of STEEL site:
- Visit the 2026 Pittsburgh Health & Fitness Expo at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Friday, May 1st

Yes! Each child registration comes with one FREE adult entry.

Each child will receive two matching bibs (same number). Children will not be allowed to leave the finish line chute without the adult wearing the corresponding matching bib. Our Family Reunion event staff will make sure that children and adults are wearing matching bibs as participants exit the finish line area. Adults can run with multiple children (for example, a guardian with two children) as long as the adult is visibly wearing all of the matching bibs (for example, a guardian running with two children will need to wear two bibs: one for each child).

Each registration includes one free adult entry. Additional race bibs for adults joining in the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon can be purchased for $10 during registration.

Yes. Each child participant's bib will have a timing strip attached to it. Their time will be based on chip time, which is recorded from the time the start line is crossed to the time the finish line is crossed. Finishing times can be found at thepittsburghmarathon.com.

For participant safety, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, baby joggers, strollers, roller skates, and roller blades are not permitted on the course.

Yes, you may; however, you must complete this online liability waiver. The child will not receive a shirt, medal, or goody bag. Please contact kidsofsteel@p3r.org with any questions.

Yes! About 30 percent of runners on race day do not participate in Kids of STEEL, but the race is designed to give everyone the same great experience. You may join any one of the designated heats for participants NOT running with a Kids of STEEL site (heat schedule coming in early April).

If your child arrives at the finish line before you, volunteers will keep them in the finish line chute until you meet up with them.

There is a designated waiting area in the finish line chute for adults and children to be reunited. Tell your child to look for the "Waiting Area" signs after the finish line. If separated on the course, volunteers will direct kids to this area to be reunited.

Once you have your child, proceed through the finish line chute. Volunteers will check to ensure you have a matching number or ‘Kid Claim’ ticket before leaving the Family Reunion Area. If you have more than one child with you, have the ‘Kid Claim’ number available for each child for volunteers to check.

YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY.  PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH OUR CHILD CLAIM PROCESSES AND LISTEN TO P3R STAFF/VOLUNTEERS FOR INSTRUCTIONS.

Detach the ‘Kid Claim’ tag from your child’s race number before the race. The Family Reunion Area is at the finish area on the Blvd. of the Allies. Volunteers will check race numbers to make sure they match before leaving the Family Reunion Area.
