Summer Olympics at Home with Paris background

How to Host Your Own Summer Olympics!

After years of waiting, the Summer Olympics are finally here! Whether you're a sports enthusiast or just love a good competition, gather your friends and family for your very own Olympics right at home. Here’s how you can create your own Olympic experience that's fun and kid-friendly.

What You'll Need:

DIY Medals: Make your own medals using simple materials you can find at home. Use jar lids to trace perfect circles on cardboard or thick paper. Decorate them with colorful markers or stickers. Attach a piece of string to each medal so winners can proudly wear them around their necks.
Event Setup: Clear a space in your backyard or at a local park where you can set up different activities.

Olympic Events to Play:

  1. Track Events:
    • Sprint Races: Line up at a starting point and have each person race to the finish line. Make it exciting by adding obstacles or making the course longer for each round.
    • Youth MOVE Day is a FREE youth track meet held on Saturday, August 3. Kids ages 5-13 have the chance to run their favorite track event for an official time. Events range from 50m up to 1 mile. Learn more and register for free here!
  2. Jumping:
    • Long Jump: Measure how far each person can jump from a starting line. You can use a soft landing pad to mark where they land. Make it challenging by seeing who can jump the farthest.
  3. Team Games:
    • Choose from classics like soccer, basketball, volleyball, or even relay races. Split into teams and compete in friendly matches. Teamwork and sportsmanship are key!
  4. Throwing:
    • Accuracy Throw: Set targets and see who can hit them with a ball or a frisbee.
    • Distance Throw: Measure who can throw a soft toy or a ball the farthest. Make sure it's safe and everyone gets a turn.

Closing Ceremony Watch Party:

Award Ceremony: At the end of all the games, host your very own award ceremony. Everyone gets a medal for participating, because everyone's effort counts! Watch the Olympics: After your own games, gather around the TV to watch the real Olympic athletes compete. Cheer for your favorites and learn more about different sports from around the world starting on July 26 - August 11, 2024.

Tips for a Successful Home Olympics:

Safety First: Make sure the playing area is safe and suitable for the activities you choose.
Have Fun: The most important thing is to enjoy the spirit of friendly competition and teamwork.
Encourage Everyone: Celebrate each participant’s effort and achievements, regardless of the outcome.

Now you’re all set to create unforgettable memories with your own Summer Olympics at home. Get ready, get set, and let the games begin!
